Maintenance & Cleaning

Keep your sliding wall in top condition

Your glass sliding wall requires little maintenance, but a bit of attention at the right moments makes a big difference. Below you will find a complete maintenance schedule: from cleaning glass to lubricating wheels and checking seals.

1. Cleaning the Glass

The glass is the most visible part of your sliding wall. Regular cleaning keeps the glass clear and free from stains. We recommend cleaning the glass regularly, or more often if your sliding wall is exposed to a lot of wind, rain or dust.

How to clean the glass?

  • Use lukewarm water with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner (dishwashing liquid works well too).
  • Use a soft cloth, sponge or professional squeegee.
  • Clean from top to bottom to prevent streaks.
  • Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free (microfibre) cloth.

⚠️ Never use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, razor blades or aggressive chemicals (acetone, bleach, ammonia). These can damage the glass.

💡 Tip: Do not clean the glass in direct sunlight. The water dries too quickly and leaves streaks. Choose a cloudy day or clean in the shade.

2. Cleaning the Rails

The top and bottom rails are essential for smooth operation of your sliding wall. Dirt, leaves, sand and dust can accumulate in the rails and block the sliding mechanism. Clean the rails regularly, and more often if there are trees or shrubs nearby.

  • Remove coarse dirt (leaves, twigs) by hand or with a soft brush.
  • Use a vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle for fine dirt and sand.
  • Clean the rails with a damp cloth and mild cleaner.
  • Dry the rails well to prevent staining (although aluminium does not rust, dirt combined with water can cause stains).

3. Lubricating Wheels and Rollers

The wheels (rollers) ensure the glass panels slide smoothly back and forth. Over time they can become drier, causing the panels to slide more heavily. Lubricate the wheels 1 to 2 times per year.

  • Use: Silicone spray or silicone dropper.
  • Avoid: Grease or oil. These attract dirt and worsen the sliding mechanism long-term.
  • Spray a small amount of silicone spray on the wheels and in the rail. Slide the panel back and forth a few times to distribute the spray.

4. Checking Seals and Brushes

The brushes (draft strips) and rubber seals ensure wind and water tightness. After several years they can wear or become damaged, especially with intensive use. Check them at least once a year.

  • Visually check if the brushes are still intact and resilient.
  • Test wind tightness: feel for drafts through the closing seams when it's windy.
  • Replace worn brushes in time. You can order new brushes in our webshop.

5. Seasonal Maintenance

SeasonMaintenance Tasks
SpringBig clean: glass, rails, wheels, seals. Ideal moment after winter.
SummerClean glass (pollen and insects). Check panels slide smoothly.
AutumnClean rails (leaves!). Lubricate wheels. Check seals.
WinterRemove ice and snow from rails (never with hot water). Check fixings after storms.

6. Common Problems and Solutions

  • Panel slides heavily: Clean rails and lubricate wheels with silicone spray. If the problem persists, check the adjustment screws and replace wheels if needed.
  • Water leakage: Check brushes and seals. Replace worn ones. Check if the silicone sealant at the rails is still intact.
  • Condensation on the glass: Condensation is normal with temperature differences. Ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Scratches on the glass: Light scratches can sometimes be fixed with glass polishing compound. Deep scratches require panel replacement.
